This month I am reviewing ‘Mindfulness-a practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world’ by Mark Williams and Danny Penman. The book makes some interesting observations about Mindfulness such as “mindfulness allows you to catch negative thought patterns before they tip you into a downward spiral”and “when you become more mindful ,you bring your intentions and actions back into alignment”.A study (quoted in the book) at the University of North Carolina showed “that meditation focused on loving-kindness for the self and for others boosted positive emotions ….After just nine weeks of training, meditators developed an increased sense of purpose and had fewer feelings of isolation”.The book is an eight week mindfulness course.Week one is Body and Breath meditation and mindful eating.Week two is Body Scan meditation.Week Three uses some non strenuous Mindful Movement practices.Week Four introduces a sounds and thoughts meditation that show how you can be sucked into over-thinking.Week Five is Exploring Difficulty meditation which helps you face difficulties.Week Six explores Befriending meditation and cultivating friendship towards yourself.Week Seven is using Meditation to make increasingly skilful choices.Week Eight helps you weave mindfulness into your daily life.If you feel you need to learn how to live a more mindful life this book will help you on your journey,it is easy to follow in Eight Weekly Steps. The book is available at all good bookshops and at:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Williams-Mindfulness-Practical-Meditations-Paperback/dp/B08K3KBKNJ
